All ABout me

Hello Fellow Craftsters,

This is my first blag and I though I start by writing a bit about myself. I am a mother of two beautiful girls. I have been married for 5 years and currently am looking for that perfect job. I am a graduate of UC Davis and have my Bachelors degree in Animal science. But because of the recession and a wrong choice of mine I am again being tossed about in the turbulent forces of the job hunting. I do currently have a part time job with a lovely upscale outlet store doing sales, something I am good at but don't love as much as my interaction with pets.

I therefore, have decided to try earning money with my craftiness. I am mostly self taught at the crafts I do but I do consider myself a quick self learner. For as long as I can remember I loved to do art projects and school project in unique ways. I one time made a mobile by making a cone out of card board, a stand out of a wire coat hanger that balanced on a self made stand. It looked like a Christmas tree. This was like in 3rd grade and every one had to hang theirs from the roof, mine could sit on a desk.

Sorry for the tangent but you will find, if I ever get people to read this blog, that I got on tangents a lot but they are usually unique and quirk. Which is a lot like who I am in person.

In high school I actually made on Junior and senior prom dress myself. My grandmother was a seamstress and had given me a couple of lessons and we even made some projects together. But these dresses where all my own. The design I used for my junior prom did not use a pattern and was very in style for the time. I'll post a picture here once I scan the picture into the computer later on this week. The dress I probably had the most fun making was my senior year prom dress. I participated in the scholarship program run by Duct Tape called "Stuck at Prom." And yes I know you are thinking, did I really go to prom in duct tape? OH Yes I did. My Husband, then boyfriend, could not attend this dance because he was on his second tour with the Navy at the time. However, my best friend agreed to go with me. He was a wall flower but he was willing to go through some embarrassment to make the night special for me. Again I'll post pictures. We did not win the scholarship but we did have a lot of fun. Many people took pictures with us. Surprisingly we were not the most dramatically dressed their thought. One guy had lost a bet and had to attend the prom in a wedding dress.

I do still sew but have not had a working sewing machine for a while. However, I have just recently acquired a new one and am itching to work with it. First I got to tailor my brothers shirt then I am thinking I'll make some purses. But if anybody has other idea's for someone starting out and wishing t sell these projects please let me know.

So I am not just a one craft person. I also use yarn. I both knit and crochet. I have been crocheting since I was in High school. I taught myself to crochet to make blankets for babies of families who lost husbands in the war. Abet, I never got one finished in a quality I dare send out while in high school but i did gain the nick name Grandma. I was always the motherly type and watched over my group of friends. I even have a sonny boy out their that called me mom, ha!. He finds it weird to call me mom now because i have two of my own. I don't mind it actually reminds me of how I was in high school. Knitting is more recent. I taught myself to knit about 4 years ago. I was a quick learner and love doing very complicated works. I love to cable, illusion knitting, and especially circular knitting. Many of my knitting and crocheting projects can be seen at www/flickr.com/sbmmmommy .

My most recent craft is scrap booking and paper cutouts. I love to positions pages for photographs and getting the most out of a page with minimal stuff on the page. I also have used my paper cutouts to make my first birthday card for someone else. I hope to expand into invitations, RSVP cards, and maybe even business cards. I am currently working on an invitation to my own daughters birthday party that should be really nice

Well it is really late and my girls will wake me up pretty early off to get about 6 hrs of sleep. Good Night fellow craftsters.
